As a women you may be asking yourself when and why should I see an Obstetrician/ Gynecologist? For that matter you may even be asking yourself who is the Obstetrician/ Gynecologist and what makes the Obstetrician/ Gynecologist different from other physicians? Well in short, the Obstetrician/ Gynecologist is a physician who has specialized training in the approach to, and the medical and surgical treatment of women. While Obstetrician/ Gynecologists specialize in the treatment of women, we have also received extensive postgraduate training in the treatment of common everyday medical issues encountered by all people. These issues include but are not limited to diabetes, hypertension, thyroid disease and musculoskeletal complaints. While these issues are common to all people (i.e. both men and women), we as Obstetrician/ Gynecologists are also specially trained to recognize not only their common presentations in all people, but also the often times unique presentations they have in women. We are after all the doctors who specialize in the treatment of women. This care includes cholesterol screening and management, diabetes screening, free in-office 3D/4D ultrasound, in-office Essure permanent sterilization and free prenatal/post-partum massage with a licensed massage therapist, and management and hypertension screening and management.
Obstetrician/ Gynecologists are also extensively trained in the approach to and treatment of medical and surgical issues that are in fact unique to women. These issue include, but again are not limited to, the management of pregnancy and pregnancy related complications, infertility, menopause, osteoporosis, chronic pelvic pain, pelvic infections, abnormal pap smears, urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, menstrual abnormalities, the treatment of ovarian, uterine and cervical masses and polyps, abnormal vaginal bleeding, breast pain, breast masses and cysts, contraception and sexual dysfunction.
